5 ways Explicit’s Emissions Lab (E-Lab) streamlines emissions monitoring

E-Lab Manager quality checking a DFM™ report on the Explicit Emissions Lab platform

Accurate emissions monitoring demands more than just measurement technology. It demands a structured, end-to-end workflow that connects every stakeholder, from pilot to client. That is exactly what Explicit’s Emissions Lab (E-Lab) is built to deliver.

The E-Lab is an integrated proprietary software platform, designed to support pilots, emissions analysts, and clients throughout the survey lifecycle: from pre-flight planning to quality-checked reporting. Built on ISO/IEC 17025 compliant data management principles, the E-Lab ensures that every survey is executed with precision and full data integrity.

Here’s how it helps streamline the emissions monitoring workflow:

1. Thorough pre-flight planning that eliminates coverage gaps

Before a pilot sets foot on-site, the E-Lab enables project managers to carry out thorough pre-flight planning. Using data provided by the client, emission sources are mapped, and a comprehensive sampling plan is specified, ensuring complete spatial coverage during the survey flight. This structured approach eliminates gaps in data collection and supports reliable results across repeated measurements.

2. DFM™ app integration that supports pilots on-site

The E-Lab is directly integrated with the DFM™ app on the pilot’s remote control. Before each flight, pilots can access a full pre-mission, including detailed site maps, identified emission source locations, designated risk zones, and operational parameters. This real-time connection between ground-level operations and the broader platform supports both flight safety and measurement accuracy, while reducing pre-flight preparation time.

3. Real-time analysis that ensures data validity

One of the most significant advantages of the E-Lab is its real-time data transmission and analysis capability. As soon as a pilot completes a flight, measurement data is transmitted to the E-Lab. If the mission is live, the E-Lab will provide a systemic results preview, allowing the pilots to use the information to optimise fieldwork as they go. In parallel, the emissions analysts can begin the final analysis and quality control immediately, regardless of where in the world the survey is taking place. This real-time support and transparent data model mean we never leave the field without verified, reliable emissions data.

4. Accredited reports that deliver emissions intelligence

Clients receive an initial emissions report within 24 to 48 hours of survey completion. The quick turnaround time essentially means data will start flowing to the client from Day 1 of the survey. Detailed site-level emissions, with reconciliation insights, are issued within 2 weeks of the completion of field sampling. All reports are produced under Explicit’s ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, providing independent assurance of data quality. This level of rigour is essential for regulatory submissions, such as the EU Methane Regulation, as well as voluntary frameworks such as OGMP 2.0.

5. Client access that builds trust and transparency

The E-Lab is not only an operational tool for Explicit’s team. Clients are granted their own access to the platform, enabling them to download daily recap reports that provide a clear, organised record of all survey activity. All emissions reports and site-level emissions with reconciliation insights are available for direct download, supporting clients’ internal data management and reporting workflows. Data is also available via Application Programming Interface (API).

Setting a new standard for emissions monitoring workflow

The E-Lab is built for the complexity of drone-based emissions surveys, designed to scale across industries and geographies, and underpinned by the same commitment to data quality that defines the DFM™ Method.

From methane surveys on offshore platforms and large-scale gas processing facilities, to flare stack monitoring and landfill gas assessments, the E-Lab provides a consistent, reliable, and fully transparent emissions monitoring workflow from first flight to final report.
