DFM – Offshore platforms

DFM - Offshore platform

Explicit quantified CH4 emissions from multiple TOTALEnergies offshore platforms using the Drone Flux Measurement (DFM) method. Thanks to its easy implementation, the DFM method can be used to quantify emissions also over sea. In this scenario, Explicit develops detailed maps which help the pilot to safely operate the drone offshore.

Flare Efficiency (FlareE)

The purpose of Project FlareE is to develop and demonstrate a new measurement methodology – based on in-situ sampling directly in the flare plume using drones equipped with gas analysers (also known as ‘sniffer drones’) – to measure and express flare Destruction Removal Efficiency (termed DRE) of methane in an operational environment. FUMES

Explicit drone flying FUMES project

The Fugitive and Unburned Methane Emissions from Ships (FUMES) project, a collaboration between the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), Explicit ApS, and the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), collected the most comprehensive dataset of real-world methane emissions from LNG-fueled ships to date, including methane slip from marine engines and fugitive methane emissions […]

DFM – Biogas plants

Explicit measured CH4 emissions from several biogas plants located in Denmark using the Drone Flux Measurement (DFM) method. By requiring only a single field operator, the DFM solution is easy to implement and does not interfere with site operations. Instant feedback is provided to the manager in the event of abnormal CH4 leaks. A detailed emission […]

DFM – Waste water treatment plants

Wastewater treatment plant closeup

The AWAIRE project, launched in December 2021 and co-sponsored by the Danish Government Ecoinnovation Programme (MUDP), seeks to combine a range of new technologies and methods not previously used for the detection and determination of N2O emissions from WWTPs, included our DFM method. In this case, the drone is equipped with a N2O state-of-the-art microsensor […]

EMSA RPAS

RPAS EMSA flight

In 2018 Explicit was tasked with monitoring ship emissions in Denmark, which expanded in 2020 to France, in 2021 to Lithuania and Spain and in 2022 to Germany. The missions used a Schiebel Camcopter(R) S100 VTOL platform equipped with a dual Explicit Mini Sniffer System for monitoring sulphur and NOx emissions from ships.

Sulphur surveillance in Danish waters

From 2017 to 2022, Explicit conducted regular airborne surveillance of sulphur emissions from ships in Danish waters on behalf of the Danish EPA. The monitoring was part of the Danish Government’s sulphur enforcement programme. The campaigns deploy a dual configuration of the Explicit Mini Sniffer System mounted on a twin-engine AS355 helicopter. Read publication
